Inglewood Takes Action Following Noise Concerns at SoFi Plaza


In response to a surge of noise complaints following the Hard Summer techno-music festival outside SoFi Stadium, Inglewood Mayor James Butts announced on Friday that music performance stages will no longer be allowed at the venue's elevated American Airlines Plaza.

Mayor Butts stated that the elevated stage in the plaza was identified as a major contributor to the noise issue, leading to the decision to prohibit stages in that area for future events. Additionally, the city will now require more advanced sound engineering and a comprehensive plan to address sound and bass frequency management.

Complaints started pouring in from South Bay communities, particularly El Segundo, with residents reporting vibrations and booming noise from the festival, featuring artists like Nelly Furtado, Disclosure, and Camden Cox. Despite previous outdoor concerts at Hollywood Park without complaints, the city worked with festival organizers over the weekend to find solutions for the problem, focusing on specific bass frequencies affected by stage position, building reflection, and atmospheric conditions.

While the city authorities and event promoters made efforts to address the noise concerns, Inglewood has taken a firm stance on the issue to ensure a better experience for residents and event attendees in the future.
